COUNTABLE NOUNS
“count” eylemi “saymak” demektir. “countable” sözcüğü ise bu eylemden türemiş bir sıfattır ve sonuna gelen “–able” takısı ile sayılabilir manasını almıştır. “a” veya “an” sözcüklerini alabilen, çoğul olabilen ve 1,2,3 şeklinde sayabildiğimiz nesneler sayılabilir nesnelerdir.

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS
Olumsuzluk ön takısı “-un” alan bu sözcük “sayılamaz” manasına gelmektedir. “a” veya “an” sözcüklerini alamayan, çoğul olamayan ve 1,2,3 şeklinde sayamadığımız nesneler sayılamaz nesnelerdir. Sıvılar (coffee, tea), sıvı gibi akışkan maddeler (sugar, salt) ve genel anlamlı bazı sözcükler (furniture, money) bu gruba girer.
QUANTIFIERS (Miktar Bildiren Sözcükler)
Miktar bildiren sözcükler adından da belli olduğu gibi bir nesnenin ne kadar olduğunu bildiren sözcüklerdir ve bu sözcükler, sayılabilir ve sayılamayan sözcüklere göre değişmektedir.
a few
sayılabilir sözcüklerle kullanılır. “çok az” anlamına gelir.
→ There were a few friends at the party.
→ He is a liar so he has a few friends.
→ She hates reading so she has a few books.
→ The dog has a few bones.
a little
sayılamaz sözcüklerle kullanılır. “çok az” anlamına gelir.
→ I have a little money. I am poor.

→ There is a little jam in the bowl.
some
sayılabilir ve sayılamaz sözcüklerle kullanılır. “biraz” veya “birkaç” anlamına gelir.

many
sayılabilir sözcüklerle kullanılır. “çok” anlamına gelmektedir.
→ I have got many books.

sayılamaz sözcüklerle kullanılır. “çok” anlamına gelmektedir.gelmektedir.
→ There is much milk in the bottle.
→ The meal needs much yoghurt.

a lot of
sayılabilir ve sayılamaz sözcüklerle kullanılır. “çok (fazla)” anlamına gelir.
→ I’ve a lot of work to do.
→ She has a lot of fish.
→ There are a lot of people at the concert.
→ He eats a lot of apples.
any
sayılabilir ve sayılamaz sözcüklerle, olumsuz ve soru tümcelerinde kullanılır. “hiç” anlamına gelir.
→ I haven’t got any close friends.
→ She doesn’t have any pets.
→ There isn’t any sugar at home.
→ Have you got any borthers?
